Minimal snow/ice at the start. Leaves were viable for about a mile in. The entire trail was in great shape utilizing bare boots all the way up to the junction. Snow eventually got to be between 4-6” prior to that but it’s been packed down, mostly. No issues slipping, ice minimal and easy to navigate. Some water flowing on trail about 3.5 miles in but nothing inconvenient.
Spikes went on at the junction and were appreciated up to the summit. Wind was calm, no views, but everything was covered in snow/rime and it was gorgeous. Did not see many on the way up but plenty of others, maybe 15 on the decent. One gentleman was heading up for a solo snow slumber at the Garfield site. Spikes all the way down until about 2 miles from the finish due to snow balling up, leaves, and some mud patches. Great day out there! |
