 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at the winter lot because the access road was nearly impassable in July. It is worse now - there are 3 craters, each more than 18” deep, and multiple spots where water has gouged crevices across the road. I am very glad that we have the winter lot as an option! |

|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
My pup had a verbal war with a grey jay that was surprisingly unbothered. The grey jay followed us down from Starr King for almost a mile, despite the fact that I don’t feed them. It was very entertaining! |

 | Comments: |
There was about 2” new snow from overnight down low, a lot of which had melted by the time we were back at the car. It was actively snowing while we were hiking, adding about another inch. It was maybe 3-4” on the ground between the two summits, with almost no drifting, so still way too bony for snowshoes. I pulled on light traction just below the Starr King summit for that little mini-chimney (which was icy under the snow) and was too lazy to take them off until almost back at the trailhead. I saw only 1 other hiker. |
