Comments
Comments: Cannon threw us a massive bone today with sunshine and bluebird skies rather than the forecasted rain, snow showers and 90% cloud cover. Took on the KRT from the tram for the first time, and was pleased to be able to bareboot to 2700 feet, where the first bit of ice appeared. Yesterday’s rain made a mess of the recent snowfall, so be prepared for 6+ inches of slush and mud, streams of water in some sections, as well as a coating of ice on the rocks and slabs. Ice was soft enough for microspikes, although two members of our group barebooted to the summit. Summit approach had packed snow/ice, as well as a fair amount of bare rock on the eastern-facing ledges. Spikes were a game changer for our whole group on the descent, but unnecessary once you hit the “kitty litter” section, which was free of ice and snow. Tonight’s freeze will definitely require shark spikes for anyone venturing up this trail tomorrow.
