Comments
Comments: Nineteen mile Brook Trail on the way in, up to the junction w/ Carter Dome Trail was mostly dry w/ some wet leaves and mud patches; on the way out everything was wet due to shower line that came through mid morning. Light dusting of snow (mostly in the woods and a little on trail) started on the Carter Dome trail at about 2700', and on the way out the snow line was down to 2400' after the showers that came through. Above the two water crossings on Carter Dome trail, snow was more consistent on trail and in the woods about 1" w/ occasional open patches of mud/running water. About 1/4 mile before Zeta Pass, started to see some ice on trail and rocks, and this continued off and on up the first part of the Carter-Moriah trail toward the Dome. Put spikes on just above Zeta Pass. Snow started to increase in depth here to about 2" and the closer to the summit you got, more snow up to maybe 4" of light, fluffy powder at the summit. It also started snowing on summit approach and continued all the way back down to Zeta Pass so those snow totals will definitely increase. Spikes stayed on until about 1/4-1/3 mile back down the Carter Dome trail from Zeta Pass when the snow got very sticky and was balling up a lot on the spikes. All in all, it was a lovely day out on trail and fun to see all the new snow!
