Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes:
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were multiple AMC people out so it seems that they are aware of the maintenance situation.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pup did fine on the KRT scrambles but she did have a whole lot to say about them. She wasn’t quite as opinionated when we hiked KRT from the other side a few months ago.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Gosh there were bits of clothing and gear strewn about, along with empty energy drink cans. I haven’t switched over to my winter pack yet so my current pack is busting at the seams with my stuff and therefore I didn’t have room to pack stuff out.

Comments
Comments: We hiked out and back via this least scrambly approach, to make it as easy as possible for my pup. Based on what I saw on the Kinsmans on Sunday (bad ice on the north sides but little to no ice on the south sides) I was hoping to score bare rock for the 0.3 mile scramble on KRT from the Lonesome Lake Trailhead parking junction to the Hi Cannon junction - and we mostly did! There is little to no ice under the snow that was there (maybe an inch of snow) and the snow that fell while we were hiking (at least another inch). Little bits of ice started at the Hi Cannon junction and continued through those typically muddy spots all the way to my second most favorite trail sign in the WMNF. I put on rock spikes for the scrambly ascent and actually kept them on until we walked back over all of the bog boards on Lonesome Lake Trail near the lake, as the bog boards were partially iced over and slippery. Rock spikes were perfect today. Lonesome Lake Trail below the lake is snow and ice free, with little mud.
All of this will change with the weather that started rolling in this morning, but at least you know what’s under whatever comes down today!
