 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The gate is not currently an issue and was open when I passed by at 7:15 am. |
 | Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant, Slush, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I am not a tall person. A tall person could probably rock hop today but I needed to use a few submerged rocks. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are lots of new blowdowns on this route (I hiked it back in August and this is definitely a change). Many are new and are skinny. Some are large and have work arounds. At least a dozen, maybe more. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
This is a great route for dogs! |

 | Bugs: |
 | Lost and Found: |
There are random things at the trailhead, including a small dog collar and a yellow article of unmentionable clothing. The latter is very perplexing. |

We hiked out and back. There is significant water and mud on the trail up to the sharp right turn just below Bunnell Rock. Above that I pulled on my rock spikes and made quick work of the 2” frozen slush and icy patches. Uou could probably forgo the traction but I am faster and more confident using it! There is about a 25 yard section of trail that is washed out by a brook diversion. There is very little bypass beaten down yet so this appears to be quite new. That section of trail was definitely impassable today (you would be wading in ankle deep and higher water). Photos on social media. We saw just a few folks out on this route, and it felt like less wind than the forecast! |
