Beautiful day for above treeline. I wore Hillsound Pro Crampons the whole way--carried the snowshoes for a little extra exercise. Noticed some hikers in microspikes that appeared to be laboring on the steeps of Ammo. Snow on Washington softened considerably by the time we were coming down, but had no problem at all with post holing. Unbelievably warm, didn't even need a jacket going up Washington. Ammo very well packed and above treeline it seemed like the snow wasn't even deep enough to sink in, so following the "trail" wasn't necessary. Between the hut and Monroe the better track was just a beeline from the hut to the peak, avoiding the steep section in the Monroe Loop Tr. |
