Comments
Comments: We parked at campsite 7 and headed into the woods along a path on the right. It descends steeply to a small stream crossing and then heads gently uphill through open woods. Leaves were off of hobblebush and raspberries and ferns were not an issue. As we approached the west peak we encountered snow (never more than 2 inches) and it became much steeper. Didn’t locate a canister on the west peak, but did find what appeared to be the high point. There were views of the Presidentials over to the Willey Range though summits were mostly socked in when we were there.

Leaving west peak, we headed to the col where we encountered one of two large blowdown patches. We toughed it out and were thoroughly soaked by the melting snow by the time we were through. Shortly after, we hit another blowdown patch, but we were so close to the summit that we again just chose to struggle through. The summit canister on Deception was on a tree immediately after the blowdown section and is one of the smaller white PVC canisters. One other sign in this year. Two pens in the canister and two busted ziplocks. No pencil.

One the way out we decided to keep heading over the summit (rather than go back through the blowdowns) and angle around to the north before contouring back along the 3400’ line. Woods were WAY better even though we were side-hilling in slush. On the way down, we picked up an old forest road which turned to the left at the end and took us right into the back of campsite 7. Were I to do this again (no plans), I would definitely head up along this forest road rather than bushwhacking to the right at the beginning of campsite 7.
