Pretty leafy and some rather slimy, slippery rocks in the morning on Hale, both climbing Hale brook trail and the top mile of Lend-a-hand. We started the whack, its really a loose braided semi-obvious path from the big tipping boulder at the south end of the boggy marsh at the 3400' contour. Little tricky figuring out the exact entry point outta the bog and into the woods. Pretty open conifers mostly and the path kinda weaves back and forth up the spine of the ridge before hitting the first (northeast) knob at 3600'. From there it flattens and goes thru some lovely mossy boggy woods before angling up and west towards the summit knob. Short wave of thick conifers up to the open knob with the summit canister. Pretty easy to cruise down back to the rock, our poles and the trail.
I went up to Zealand after the rest of the group split to head down and out at the hut. The most running water I've seen on this section of Twinway since snowmelt in the spring and somewhat muddy in the hollows betwen the knobs above Zeacliff. Summit to myself, quick side trip to Zeacliff on the way out and last day of summer hut season. Zealand Trail surprisingly dry compared to Twinway |
