I didn't realize this knob had a name. I just wanted to explore this ridge that runs down/northish from Mt. Paugus and find a ledge that I always see from the Sisters of Mt. Chocorua. I found the register and said hello. It was a spectacular autumn day. I left the trail at the height of land, headed for the col just south of this knob. It was mostly open hardwoods until maybe 2400', transitioning into mostly softwoods but still nothing too thick. I explored the flat area and then headed north to the knob. Nice views to Chocorua. Continuing south along the ridge, it got nasty fast and it took a while to get back down to hard woods. I found an area with a lot of bear nests among the very healthy looking beech trees. |
