Just a heads up for those venturing up on the Mt. Washington cone and other presidential peaks. There's a fair amount of blue or hard ice forming high up and I found I had to be quite deliberate with microspikes in order not to skate out. I would guess icy conditions may previal or even increase with freezing and thawing, so crampons would be a good hedge (I would have worn mine yesterday higher up) Otherwise concur that Jewell was hardpack in the morning and Ammo was getting slushy by afternoon. I'm sporting a nice sunburn from solar glare - but not complaining! |
