Comments
Comments: Incredible conditions all day. Perfect fall weather and good, to great woods the entire loop, with the exception of some short lived hobblebush and blowdown sections. Followed trails to the hairpin and went straight for Flat Mountain, coming up right at the high point. Followed the south ridge down to the pond, favoring the west side. I went NE when I hit the pond and as soon as it looked reasonable, crossed the Whiteface river and headed straight up the north ridge to the summit of Flat Mountain South. Based on several reports there was no longer a register at the summit, I did 30 minutes of searching to no avail and then hung a new jar/register at the boulder with the quartz on top. Finished the day with a steep but straightforward descent back to the trailhead.
