Comments
Comments: Two weeks ago there were multiple reports of stinging wasps at the dry brook crossing at 2.5 miles from the trailhead. We alertly rushed past this section of trail and were happy to encounter no such thing.

Seeing the washout on Sawyer River Road up close for the first time it is hard to imagine it is going to be fixed anytime in the near future-it is really gnarly. Although we did see the landowner who owns the house by Livermore open the gate down low and drive right past it without issue in a large pickup.

Fantastic overnight on Carrigain. Started at noon on Thursday and ended at exactly noon on Friday. We stayed at the designated site just below the summit, which is a really awesome spot to camp. It was pretty hot on the climb up, which was extremely suffer-filled due to lugging the majority of overnight gear, food, and water for three humans up to the top. The last water is the main crossing at 1.7 miles from the trailhead, so I carried five liters from that point and between drinking, cooking, and coffee we used every drop. There are a lot of golden birch leaves down above 2000'. There is some foliage popping here and there, but nothing crazy yet. We were treated to a beautiful sunset and had the tower and campsite to ourselves. I was hoping for a calm, tranquil breakfast and sunrise, but when I went up to the tower at 5:45AM to drink coffee I was greeted with 20-25mph winds gusting above 40mph, and views similar to the inside of a ping-pong ball. I waited it out to see if the clouds would break while the kiddos slept but it never happened until we were well down the mountain mid-morning.
