Comments
Comments: The trail surfaces were dry. Generally good footing. There were a few minor puddles above tree line that cause no problems for passage. The ledges in the woods on the Edmands Path were all dry, so the footing was secure.
The foliage on the ground vegetation in the alpine zone was colorful. Clear skies today. Great views from all areas above the tree line. The landscape above tree line is particularly impressive.
Be careful not to wander off the Crawford Path just to the north of Mt Monroe as there is a threatened species of plant in this area.
The Edmands Path turns to the left on ascent at the gateway. There is a small pile of three logs to discourage hiking on a phantom trail that continues straight at the gateway.
The water level in the lower Lake of the Clouds is quite low.
Nice to talk with Audrey who was on her way to Mt Franklin. Also talked with a couple from the Netherlands and a guy from Newcastle UK. Met a 7 year old boy and a 9 year old girl on the cone of Mt Washington.
Provided guidance to three hikers that were off trail or disoriented.
Lots of hikers headed to the Lake of the Clouds hut.
No hot food available at the summit. So no hot dogs today.
