|
 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking is at the lot just off route 302 near the entrance to Sawyer River Road.
Sawyer River Road is closed (gated) due to a washout. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The water level in Carrigan Brook is low. Many large downed trees by the side of the brook. The best rocks for crossing the brook are accessed to the right of these fallen trees on ascent. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Many of the bog bridges just before reaching the junction with the Carrigan Notch Trail are broken.
One of the two logs spanning a small waterway near the beginning of the third reroute is broken. The remaining log is adequate to allow for safe passage.
The trails are free of obstructions. The only tree falls are resting on the ground. Easy step overs. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs. Water is plentiful down low. Water is scarce at higher elevations. |
|
 | Bugs: |
A few small flying bugs near the beginning of Sawyer River Road in the PM. No real problem. |

 | Comments: |
The surfaces were dry except a few spots down low where there was the usual mud. There are many rocks to step on to keep your footwear dry.
Nice small cascades and pools on Whiteface Brook.
Great views from Signal Ridge and the summit observation tower. One of the best in the White Mountains. Visibility was better than most of this summer.
Nice to hike part of the way with two nurses; Natalie from VT and Melanie from MA. Met many other hikers from St J VT, Quebec, Walpole NH, Washington State, Ann Arbor Mich, and NY. Three individual trail runners ran the circuit using Signal Ridge, Carrigan Notch, and Desolation trails. |
