Comments
Comments: Landowner has restricted access to the summit of Cleveland, so we approached it on WMNF land and aimed for the spot along the boundary that would get us closest to the summit. We were about 0.15 miles from the summit as the crow flies…good enough. Headed back to FR774 and made this a loop hike by coming around and joining up to “Gale River Road” (as labeled on GaiaGPS), which is not the same as the Gale River Road on the other side of Route 3. This one is just a hiking trail…snowmobile in the winter, I think.
The rec/rail trail was in great shape as were the other forest roads. The bushwhacking was pretty open, though there seemed to be a lot of voids under all of the leaves and also a fair amount of climbing over small blowdowns. The spruce got a little pokey right near the boundary. Also, lots and lots of spiders on the bushwhack. Seriously…there were more than I can remember ever seeing.
