Followed Liam/Twinkle Toes's route to start. The initial side hilling isn't fun, but also isn't too long. It was a relief to find the ski trail, which was very fern-y, but still easy to make good time on. Reached the dam which is pretty cool and had been mowed fairly recently, so we walked on the top of the dike, enjoying the views. We then walked up the ATV trail to the gravel pit, and then went to the top left of the gravel pit, before entering the woods. Woods were quite nice and open from here and we got the ridge in no time. The ridge was also quite nice, with some herd paths through the ferns, and only one tricky to navigate mini-cliff band. We made it to the high point pretty quickly - I was expecting the summit ridge to be worse based on prior reports. And we returned to the dam following our same path via the gravel pit.
Re-entering the dam area from the ATV road, there is a 'no ATV/motorized vehicle' sign but it is explicitly not posted at this common entry point, and we made good time back to the car in light of this.
Took us about 2:10 total. |
