Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Wooden bridges!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Thank you to whoever was out recently on the Sawyer Pond Trail - it looks great!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is a great route for dogs - there are almost as many squirrels as there are mosquitoes.
Bugs
Bugs: Happily the black flies seem to have receded, on this route. Apparently the mosquitoes are not getting enough meals due to the road closure, and they were out in force and absolutely relentless.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There are sopping wet, stinky clothes at the tent sites. I didn’t have it in me to pack that stuff out. I barely stopped because of the mosquito swarms, and I think that those stinky clothes would have made things worse for me. Sigh.

Comments
Comments: It used to be that Sawyer Pond was 1.5 easy miles from the parking at the end of Sawyer River Road, but with the road closure this hike now has an extra 7.5 miles and 660’ of gain. It’s definitely a nice trek (minus the mosquito madness) and the only other person I saw was a guy headed to the pond with a fishing pole. I was part of a USFS volunteer crew that did a bunch of tree transplanting (at the tent sites) a few years ago, and those trees are coming along nicely. A lot of the area is roped off to allow for revegetation.
