| | Date of Hike: | Wednesday, July 2, 2025 | | | | | Parking/Access Road Notes: | Plenty of parking at the lot for Ripley Falls and Ethan Pond. | | | | | Surface Conditions: | Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable | | | | | Recommended Equipment: | | | | | | Water Crossing Notes: | A few easy crossings. | | | | | Trail Maintenance Notes: | Ethan Pond Trail has loads of bog bridges. Most are in good shape. Maybe 5% need to be replaced. A-Z Trail west of Willey Range Trail needs lots of attention. Down by Zealand Ponds, the A-Z Trail is very overgrown. Hobblebush and other brush needs to be cut back. As you climb higher, there are numerous blowdowns -- especially as you get close to Willey Range Trail. East of Willey Range Trail, A-Z Trail is in much better shape. | | | | | Dog-Related Notes: | | | | | | Bugs: | Not bad. | | | | | Lost and Found: | | | |

| | | | Comments: | I walked all of Ethan Pond Trail from Willey House Station Road to Zealand Trail. The highlights were Ethan Pond itself, Thoreau Falls, and the views of Whitewall Mountain. It was a very pleasant stretch of trail.
To get back to Rte. 302, I took A-Z Trail over the ridge of the Willey Range and then descended Avalon Trail. To my surprise, it looks like A-Z Trail west of Willey Range Trail is not used much (see trail maintenance notes). It was rough going in places, but fun nonetheless.
