Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is only roadside parking at the trailhead, which is just about 1.0 mile west of the Sabbaday Falls scenic parking area. There were just two vehicles there on arrival at 8am. All others were gone by 4:30pm.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are five (or more?) non-major crossings on the lower part of Pine Bend, going up to the wilderness boundary. Not very much water was flowing in any of them, with ample hopping or barely submerged stones, and crossings were largely "walk right across."
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is in good shape. There are a few potential head-knockers. One notable one was on the way up the steep, wet rock-filled ravine section not far below the crossover. It was a blowdown of many years ago, cut to provide passage, but still partially sticking out over the trail. It was smooth, with the bark long since gone, but one of us did a head-butt into it, knocking her off her feet. I find myself having numerous such encounters, as I ascend with head down toward the trail and wide-brim hat obscuring glances up. I keep telling myself to look up more frequently, but when I don't .....
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw a couple, well-behaved. One was on leash.
Bugs
Bugs: I think we're mostly over the bugs now, based on other trip reports and what we encountered. There were some mosquitos, but bug juice seemed to work. I did get a few bites, though.

Comments
Comments: Another nice outing with the OTHH, our group going up & down via Pine Bend, another trio of us going up to the ridge via Sabbaday Brook and down via Pine Bend. We had full sun, and humidity wasn't too bad, but a bit more noticeable in the afternoon. Notably difficult are the steeps going up the ravine just above the Sandwich Wilderness boundary sign, before and somewhat past the crossover. That stretch is filled with wet, slippery, partly moss-covered boulders, which must be passed with caution, notably when descending. Then there is the steep approach to the north peak, slow-going in both directions. On this stretch, there are numerous herd paths around the sections of ledge, which are difficult scrambles otherwise. Some climbing with hands here is unavoidable.
