This was an amazing hike. Went up Ammonusuc in a light rain. 2.5 hrs to the hut. Trail is obvious except when it crosses the stream at the waterfall. Some fairly short/steep slabs to negotiate near the top. A little more difficult when wet. I would not go down this way in the rain or on wet rocks. Up ok. Once above tree line it's just rocks, rocks and rocks. Stayed at Lakes of the Clouds hut overnight. Checked in and finished Monroe. Fantastic views. In the morning headed out to Washington (hour and 10 minutes). Arrived just after 9am with only 2 other people. Cars started arriving around 9:20am, and the first train shortly after that. Incredible views all around. This was a great way to tackle Washington. |
