Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: At a grassy parking area before the gate on FR 211, 0.1 mi. from NH 118 in Warren. There's a small tree down right at the gate.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most were no issue. The first has an awkward blowdown right at the crossing that must be clambered over. At the second swamp in, part of the trail has been flooded and this requires a bit of wading or bushwhacking around. I used a nearby submerged log to get across. Be mindful of stepping stones as they are quite slippery from moss due to light use.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I recall this trail having an adopter several years ago but I'm not sure about now. The biggest issue is the trail corridor itself. From FR 211 to Hubbard Brook Rd., the corridor is overgrown and needs to be opened up again. Numerous blowdowns are scattered from end-to-end. Blazes are present but are old and faded. In the area of the past beaver activity (not flooded today) at the SE end of the trail, the corridor is very difficult to follow due to lack of definition, light use, old/missing blazes, storm debris, and downed trees. I briefly lost the trail through here in both directions. The bog bridges on that end of the trail are in good shape but are also very slippery. Some chicken wire would help here.

Bugs
Bugs: Oh yes, there were bugs. Many bugs. Deer flies were plentiful and persistent. I've found six ticks so far and I'm sure there are more lurking about. I'm honestly surprised my legs weren't covered in them.

Comments
Comments: It was time today for the every-five-years-or-so walk along Hubbard Brook Trail to update its description in the WMG. As noted above, the biggest issue is the overgrowth. Most of the time the footbed is visible but sometimes it isn't. You'll be brushing up against vegetation most of the way.

Pretty much every kind of trail condition today. Mostly dry but there are some good mud pits as well as the flooded spot mentioned above. Things were wet in the morning from overnight rains but were drying out quickly with the heat.

Despite the conditions, I really enjoy this walk. It's a beautiful and quiet way to see some remote wetland areas. But it definitely needs attention.
