Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Paugus - South Peak, NH
Trails
Trails: Kelley Trail, Lawrence Trail, Old Mast Road
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 21, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Got maybe the second-to-last parking spot in the Ferncroft lot around 8. Lot (and overflow areas) completely full when I got back around 11:30. On a side note, people really need to park properly in that lot. I ended up having to do a 10-point turn (at least) to get out because of the cars behind me (one parked somewhat diagonally, and another against the trailhead sign, so it was sticking out further than the other cars).
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: N/A
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One blowdown that needs to be de-limbed about a mile into Old Mast Road. Everything else is smooth sailing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only saw one all day, and he looked happy.
Bugs
Bugs: Bad. Given this entire hike is wooded, you're not gonna get much relief even if there is a breeze.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Few random items at the trailhead.

Comments
Comments: Was hoping to find some solitude on the first nice Saturday we've had in months, and this hike fit the bill. Only saw one other group of 3 on trails all day.

Kelley Trail is the star of this hike. Very cool trail with tremendous footing. Lawrence was equally as gentle under the feet. Old Mast Road was the "roughest" of the trailbeds, but that's not saying much. It's still easier than 98% of the trails in the Whites.
