Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Cedar Stream Road, I drove up Crystal Brook Road, the gate was open. I drove partway up Spur road but it was passable, but very bumpy, so I did a multi point turn, parked, hopped on my bike and pedaled the next couple miles until it switched to a grassy trail where I started the hike, around 2400 feet is as far as you could drive if you really wanted. The culverts are all washed out but technically passable. Beyond that I think it was snowmobile only, no atvs.

Comments
Comments: I hiked up the snowmobile trail to the col between the 2 summits. There is a junction here and another road not shown on Gaia. The bike ride/ road walk was very enjoyable and at 2400 ft feels very high and remote. Once in the clearing in the col, I wasn’t sure where to start, so just went straight for Blue Ridge, down through some thick stuff, then up, and the woods soon opened up into a beautiful ferny glade. I stayed to the east of the ridge as it was more open there, but it drops off steeply and soon I was on the ridge and not long to get to the canister. Some very old sign-ins! Back more or less the same way to the big clearing. Same thing for NW Crystal, thick at first, then open ferns meadows, then very pokey on the summit cone. I got a bit off course on the way back from trying to circle around the thick woods. It ended up taking longer to descend than to ascend, but I got to explore more of the lush meadows, which were quite muddy underfoot but full of cool plants. I was relieved to pop out on the trail again at the end, but the hike really wasn’t as hard as I expected overall.
