Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking overnight on Nash Stream rd isn’t allowed, but I parked at a trailhead and stayed in Old Hermit shelter. I can’t find a clear answer if this is allowed. There are signs saying construction, work is planned in the area this season but there was nobody around except one or two other hikers.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Where Cohos trail turns onto Westside road could use one more arrow. On the way up to the Old Hermit shelter, some water bar work would help on a section of road that is very wet.

Comments
Comments: (This was 2 weeks ago). I bushwhacked to the Stratfords, about a 4 mile whack, plus a few miles on atv roads that are also the cohos trail. From old Hermit shelter, I headed back south on the CT and turned right up the road, the continuation of Westside road. Gaia doesn’t show the road accurately, what appears as the road on the map is actually an obscure ATV trail, I took it on the way back. I followed the actual new road to the HOL, then bushwhacked due South to the first summit. The terrain wasn’t exactly straightforward at first, but the footing was decent and the woods open hardwoods with plenty of ferns, but not as much hobble bush as i expected. I hopped on old paths when they seemed to match my southerly bearing and it was quick moving. I found some lookouts on the east side just below the South peak. I stuck more to the West side of the ridge on the way back, hit a wet marshy area about halfway, then found a wet grassy road that is shown on Gaia on the west side, taking me back over to the north summit and back to Westside road/ Cohos trail. Not a super interesting hike but not difficult. I could hear distant traffic on the west side that was not heard on the Nash stream side.
