The Greeley Ponds Trail was tracked out by a XC skier this morning.
From the junction all the way to the summit, trail was unpacked. We broke trail the whole way with drifts of 4-5 ft in certain areas. The chimney by-pass was doable in snowshoes but very icey. Traction probably would have been a safer option. We saw no one until the summit of Osceola. After the dog incident we let the group of 2 pass. It was almost impossible to come down the Mount Osceola Trail on our feet. The loose snow made it very unstable so we slid most of the way down. This may make it difficult for the next group to hike up. There were a couple of people on the Greeley Ponds Trail on our way out. Both trails are now very well packed. |
