Comments
Comments: Day one of a Hale/Willey Range backpack. Parked at Zealand and walked back to Hale Brook. Good spring conditions on Hale. Water everywhere, bring your filter and carry very little. All the small tributaries that dry up in summer are flowing. Ethan Pond is heaven/hell. Beautiful, smooth, and dry from Twinway to Shoal Pond. Flooded and rocky with rotting bog bridges from Shoal Pond to the tentsite. Did the short spur to Thoreau Falls which is absolutely raging and spectacular right now. Saw no one else on the Ethan Pond trial until arriving at the campsite to two of the first thru hikers to come through of the year. Interestingly, the only snow I saw on the day was in the woods around the Ethan Pond spur trail.
