Comments
Comments: Great winter hike with mostly blue skies and great snowshoeing conditions finally. I barebooted the road walk without guilt which is packed down from snowmobile traffic that was steady, though my two companions wore snowshoes end to end. I earned my latest pseudonym moniker, "trail wrecker" by also only microspiking the first 1.7 miles of the Signal Ridge trail in and out--no real harm was done to the trail as it was packed out nicely with the occasional inch of blown snow and my companions filled in any divots with their snowshoes behind me.

After the junction with Carrigain Notch trail I switched to snowshoes, which were a better idea as the new/blown loose snow became 3-6 inches on the long climb up. The fun was on Signal Ridge, which is exposed for only .2 miles, but the winds were blowing 30mph, 17 air temp, -17 windchill. We had full face protection and googles. Glad with wind, blowing snow, and ice pellets. One in our group had her goggles where blown off her face and stopped by teammate. My snowshoe came off on the five foot wide section with the HUGE sheer drop off, but was able to shuffle across into trees with out incident. More powder on final push to summit, where views where great everywhere except to Presi and Franconia Ridge which were socked in clouds. Trip out fast and uneventful. We were the only hiker out today--real treat to be out midweek-thanks. Trail is well packed out after a couple groups this weekend and our trip.
