 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked in the small-mid sized dirt lot about 1mi north of the center of Ashland on Highland St. Room for 8 regularly parked cars, then at least a few more parallel parked opposite them before the lot would begin to overflow. When I arrived around 10:45am, there was maybe only one other there but many quickly coming and going. When we got back to the car just shy of 2pm, there were several more and one parked parallel but still room for at least a few more. |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Some minor flows to step over or through given all the recent rain but normally I don't think there are any. This is a good hike to do after there's been heavy rain. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Main Junction Trail is marked with red diamonds, North Peak Loop in blue, and South Peak in green. I don't recall any blowdowns. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Good trails for dogs. They are allowed and I'm not sure if there's any leash restrictions or not. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Black flies were out and annoying but far from horrendous in my opinion. |

Very nice Mother's Day hike with mom and dad :) Sunny but on the chillier side and windy. Made for a colder hike than I expected! This was my 2nd time hiking this loop and I'd forgotten that the view is actually quite open from south peak. No views on the summit of north but there are a couple of framed views along the way to it which are nice (mainly toward Sandwich Dome and Jennings Peak I think). Though there were some places where it was difficult to keep your feet dry, this hike doesn't have any real water crossings and is usually quite dry I believe, so I'd say that this is a good go-to hike after a lot of wet weather. We hiked the loop counterclockwise and went up the "steeper" side and down the gentler though there's really only one pitch on the south side that could be called steep. Footing is good and grades pretty gradual overall. This is a very family friendly, good bang for your buck hike, especially if just going to South Peak. Saw many others out including some familiar local faces :) Gaia had us at 3.7mi, 600ft of gain. |
