The 7 Cock peaks. No snow on the Hitchcocks, very little on the Hancocks. I followed a curving SW ridge line up to South Hitchcock, mediocre woods, no real good parts. The only good view was from just below South peak. I didn’t find the ridge to be particularly great, so just followed a compass bearing straight between all the other peaks. I will say it was toughest from North to West, and from West to East, where I skirted the middle peak. Not a lot of blowdowns besides easy step-overs, but tight woods almost everywhere. Passable, but slow going. Nice canisters on all 5, easy to find. The bushwhack was 9 miles, then I hit the Hancocks for the grid, and back out the trail to my bike before sunset. 11 hours total, 16.4 miles, 5600 feet of vert. The gray jays were the most aggressive I’ve ever seen today, while having lunch on Hitchcock. That was a first for a bushwhack. |
