Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: So many blowdowns on so many trails it was hard to keep count. Wildcat Ridge had a decent amount, some we were able to move. One very large one that we had to squeeze through. Significant amounts that we had to go around. Heading up to Carter Dome there were a few here and there that we were able to walk over or around. Trail was much better heading over South and Middle Carter and down North Carter/Imp trail, but still required some maneuvering. If you hike these peaks, bring patience and maybe a saw!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pup needed some boosts here and there, and some help maneuvering around the blowdowns with his backpack. Otherwise he did great and really enjoyed the amount of water on these trails (definitely a lot more than the humans!)
Bugs
Bugs: None today

Comments
Comments: I’ve been waiting to do this hike for a while and today was the perfect day! Heading up Polecat was quick and easy with no issues. Wildcat Ridge was where the fun began and where we began to notice blowdowns and patches of snow. We took our time and moved what we could. One extremely large blowdown heading down to the hut from A we had to step far off trail to get around. The bottom half of Carter Moriah trail heading up to Carter Dome was dry with a few blowdowns. Closer to the summit we encountered more snow, mud, and coupled with blowdowns it was difficult to see the trail at times. Summit of Carter Dome was bare. Heading down towards Zeta Pass was full of snow, a very unstable monorail. Snow is still pretty deep though so should likely be there for a few more weeks. Heading over the rest of the Carters was relatively quick and dry. North Carter trail and the first half of Imp was wet, as always, with running water and unavoidable mud. Even with less than ideal trail conditions, we had some great views and minimal crowds.
