Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Champney Brook is running high. You can avoid the two crossings by using the bypass that was in place for a couple of decades until it was discointinued a few years ago. When you arrive at the first crossing, turn right and clamber up the slope through a couple of small blowdowns and you'll see the old trail running uphill along the crest of the ridge. It parallels the stream. There are two blowdowns to negotiate, but it's not difficult. The old trail follows the ridge for a couple of hundred yards, then drops to the left back down to the brook just beyond the second crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns on the lower stretches.

Bugs
Bugs: Cool temps kept blackflies down for the most part, but they are out and curious.

Comments
Comments: Much of the Champney Falls Trail drains well, but with all the rain we've had, there are many stretches that are quite wet. There is one very small section of ice on one of the upper switchbacks, but it's easy to step around. Don't bother with micro-spikes. Mine enjoyed the ride in my backpack.
