Comments
Comments: It was a rough traverse of the Hancock loop. North hancock to south hancock was a mess. Only temporarily was there a dry trail until the first water crossing. It was manageable, but getting higher. Snow was still very much on the ground and was slush which made postholing inevitable. Water crossings were higher, but manageable. Don't mistaken the descending before ascending. It was steep and slippery with the snow. The ascent up North Hancock was dry and not terrible. A few muddy spots, but manageable. The rotting monorail to the "viewpoint" was still pretty elevated which caused us to have to tiptoe in a single file line to keep from falling off trail. The monorail is still waist deep in some spots and knee deep in others. Getting down South Hancock was a different story. It was steep, icy, more monorail. My opinion, it didn't matter which way you took the Hancocks, the lollipop was the same. Though I'm happy we took North to South. The water crossings were higher and the trails had more running water on them as the day went on. By now, however, with all the recent rain, it's probably worse. Good luck the next few weeks unless it dries out some.
