 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Not sure if this western section of Carr Mtn. Trail has an adopter but it is currently in a quasi-abandoned state in places. Between the falls spur and the WMNF boundary, the path is becoming overgrown with saplings through the areas of extensive logging that have taken place in recent years. That entire section needs to be recleared and will be a massive tick magnet in summer. There are lots and lots of blowdowns scattered along the length of the trail. Water bars and other drainages look like they haven't been touched in a very long time. The trail is largely unblazed, except for a few random blazes near the upper cascades. Not sure why these blazes are at this location by themselves. Above the cascades there is a lot of evidence of storm damage. The trail corridor is also a bit obscure in a few places up here without the markings. I did go down the eastern section of the trail for a bit, which is currently a running stream. Near the top, the bog bridges are rotted and broken and there are several blowdowns. |

Carr Mtn. Trail from the Warren side.
Well, as one could have expected, ground conditions were very, very wet today (trekking umbrella for the win). The lower logging road section through the timber harvest was super swampy. Lots of areas of standing and running water. Drainages that are usually dry were full of rushing rainwater. I was being a bit extra cautious on the way down because every rock and root was slippery.
That said, the on again, off again showers have really livened up the upper cascades along the trail as well as Waternomee Falls.
I also went down the eastern side of the trail for a bit and found the vague herd path that leads to the town of Warren high point. The register inside the jar was soaked and needs to be replaced.
Not surprisingly, I didn't see anyone else out there today. |
