 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Driving up the access road to the parking area was slow, carefully avoiding the worst of the gullies and potholes, but we did make it in a car without great clearance. With our vehicles, lot was half to 2/3 full. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Mud - Significant |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
None, really, just a few drainage flows. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are numerous blowdowns up high on SK and between peaks. Some have been trimmed, some are frozen into the monorail. Bypassing a few larger ones allows generally unimpeded travel for now. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw two, having fun. |
|
 | Bugs: |
A few flitting about, but didn't seem to be biting (yet!). |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
There still is half a pair of Kahtoolas hanging by the trailhead kiosk. Between peaks there was a wet black Head light glove; I packed it out and hung it by the microspike item. |

 | Comments: |
Nice day with the OTHH, between rainy days. We even had a fair amount of sun midday. There was a brief very light sprinkle for perhaps 15 minutes short of the cars at the end of the outing. We donned spikes around 3200', kept them on until around there on the way down. Going up to SK, there was a short stretch of icy monorail remnant, then a long stretch of bare trail, then a longer , snowier monorail up to SK. Between peaks, there was far more stable monorail, up two feet and more above the trail, than there was bare ground. To the sides of the monorail, there were a great many hip-deep postholes. I can't see doing this hike without traction for some time yet. |
