Comments
Comments: Up the Ethan Pond/ladder side of Willey is almost entirely ice/snow free! Couple small stretches of sometimes awkward ice that you might want to have spikes on hand for, but might melt entirely by the end of the weekend. After that - intermittent snow between Willey and Field; consistent firm monorail between Field and Tom that is undermined by water but held just fine today. Going up Tom is intermittent snow/ice. Down A-Z pretty snow/ice covered, snow ends near the junction with Avalon at 2500 ft. I was spikes on/off the whole hike, carried snowshoes re: other reports but I don't think they'd do you much good even if it's more melty. Stashed my pack and jogged back to my car on the road.

I took a chance that the water crossings would be manageable at the end of my "traverse," and they were, but with more rain coming this weekend check the Pemi/Saco water level data at waterdata.usgs.gov and see what the rivers are doing. water.noaa.gov also has forecasts for the rivers which I have found helpful.
