Date of Hike: Friday, May 2, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A sizable lot w/1 porta (no TP). 1 other car when I left, 5 when I finished.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The infamous Dicey Log makes the only crossing of note no problem.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blueberry Ledges Trail and Dicey's Mill from the junction w/Rollins trail down are in great shape and very well maintained...lots of stone stairs and water bars. There are a lot of trees down on the Rollins Trail and Dicey's Mill from Rollins up to the summit...a lot of them the root balls ripped up. It looks like a lot of great work has been done already to make the trails passable, but there are still a lot of sizable trees down on the trails, but nothing that prevents passage.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw 1 in the lot when I started. They might need a bit of a boost on some of the ledge sections, so consider your pup's ability to climb steep sections or your ability to lift them when deciding to bring them up Blueberry ledges. An athletic hiking dog wouldn't have much trouble. The rest of the hike is dog friendly.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There is a lost and found crate at the TH kiosk (containing nothing of value). Poor form to throw your trash/empties in it.

Comments
Comments: Headed up Blueberry Ledge trail in a light rain. There were a lot of wet bare rock sections, and my Speedgoats gripped like a monkey wearing crampons. Sections of monorail, but I stayed in bare boots the whole day. If it were below freezing, micros would be helpful. The steeper sections as you approach the summit were no problem despite being wet. The surfaces are pretty grippy, and there are lots of hand holds. I think for some people any exposure at all like the Chimney on Osceola's or ladders on Willey or Hi Cannon gives them pause...these ledges are similar in difficulty imo and I enjoyed the scrambles.

No views at the "summit" ledges of WF, and picked my way along the monorail for the first mile of Rollins Trail, where it switches to mostly bare trail for the rest of the way to the junction with Dicey's. In places on the 1st mile of Rollins coming from WF, the monorail is still 2-3' high, but mostly supportive. A little monorail on Dicey's Mill in the last half mile to the summit of Passaconaway, but nothing that warranted micros...lots of rocks/logs/roots exposed. Dicey's from the intersection w/Rollins down to the river crossing is in great shape and imo one of the more enjoyable trails to descend.
