Bugs
Bugs: Yes! The black flies were out on most of the J trail and at least half of the Daniel Doan trail. I wasn’t prepared for them.

Comments
Comments: The J trail was a steady incline for most of its 4.3 miles. There were no steep sections and maybe just one flat area. The upper third of the trail could use some trimming. The trees have taken over and you will need to push your way through every now and then. Prepare yourself to see more moose poop than you’ve seen in a while on the upper sections of both the J trail and Daniel Doan. The door to the uppermost area of the fire tower is open and, of course, the views are excellent from the tower. The Daniel Doan trail is a wet mess. A significant portion of the trail has flowing water. The lower portion is on a former logging road. The going is slow at the top, but easy as you descend. Active logging is happening at the bottom of the trail. The black flies are out.
