The big blowdowns on Carter Dome have been cleared enough to enable you to stay on trail leading up to Carter Dome. On the way down to Carter Notch Hut, there are several blowdowns blocking the Carter-Moriah Trail. The monorail was still pretty firm in just the right place, narrow like a balance beam at times. There is enough melt alongside the trail in places but this was slushy and more wet in spots. Bare booted to the junction of Carter Dome and Carter-Moriah Trails, then rock spikes rest of way. I post-hold a handful of times around the monorail and around blowdowns where trail less packed. Also closer to the summit of Carter Dome where snow was softened in the warm sun. Trail from Carter Dome down to the hut was snow, ice in spots but the realy steep section before the hut was mostly bare rocks. Some snow and ice in around the ponds and by the hut. |
