 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in the gravel lot north of the trailhead. No problems. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There were at least five crossings of various "intensities"; nothing to make you turn around. Just exercise caution and open your mind to putting one foot on a rock that might be a little underwater. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Two blowdowns of note, but easy to get around. The blue blazes on the trees could use a touch up - a couple of times I found myself disoriented, but easily figured out the trail (thanks to the existing monorail). |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw no dogs, which was a bummer. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Maybe a couple of gnats? Nothing that warranted insect protection. |

 | Comments: |
An absolutely beautiful day to go for a hike anywhere. The first half of the ascent (going up to the intersection that splits between Jackson and Webster) was light on ice, heavier on mud. For the second half, microspikes of some sort were a necessity. The monorail vacillates between being ice and being melty snow on ice. Definitely watch your step. The ice bridges on a couple of the crossings are melting, so exercise caution with those. That aside, the views at the top were tremendous. I didn't run into anyone until I was heading back down the trail. |
