| Dog-Related Notes: |
Pepper and Sadie had lots of fun despite icing on the paws. Sadie could run just about anywhere, and did. Pepper's Vaseline treated paws did much better than Sadie's untreated, but she was off trail more. No usable water on trail. Pawpath pretty easy. |

| Comments: |
The parking area and lower trail got less than an inch of new snow from the recent storm. That was a surprise, so we packed the snowshoes and started up in boots. The snow gradually increased to maybe 5-6" on the ridge. It was powdery but stuck enough to the ice buldges to make them easier. We put snowshoes on in the steep sections for traction, and kept them on until down low on the return. It was a great snowshoe. We saw barebooters, spikes and crampons, and some choppiness and postholing on the ridge between the peaks from non-snowshoers, but it was only in spots and later snowshoers were smoothing things out. Very scenic day, whether mountain views, snowy woods or wondrous snow "figurines" on S. Kinsman under sunny skies, with light winds. Chilly if one stopped for long and didn't get extra layers on. Thanks Sharon, Sadie and of course 'ol mighty tough. |
