My pup and I spent midday heading out to the beaver ponds on Tunnel Brook Trail. We left from the northerly trailhead, as I was redlining/trail tracing to connect a previous winter trip from the south side. Day was uneventful - warm temps brought out the early spring ephemerals -White Throated Sparrows, Winter Wrens. Ruby Crowned Kinglets and the first Hermit Thrush of the year (for me) singing. The logging road has a big ditch where the culvert and road was washed out -easy to get by and over. As noted above the trail maintainer has done a fine job on the trail -well marked, especially at a couple tricky turns (Keep an eye out for the NH cairn -fun!). Snow is absolutely gone, so the rock spikes went for a ride. Very quiet out there -a few folks around.
Benton Trail - There has been some active logging very close to the trailhead. There is a clearly marked sign at the junction. |
