Comments
Comments: I was able to hike the loop without using traction. The most snow and snow compressed to ice is on the New Path between the South Doublehead spur and the Old Path. Even in this section of trail, most of the surfaces are bare. You may want to carry microspikes in case you decide you need traction. There were two short stretches of snow on the Old Path below the ridge.
There was not much mud or water in the trail in and around the junction of the Ski Trail and the Old Path. In the past, I have experienced a lot of water in this area. The mud down low on the New Path can be walked through without sinking in.
Good views from two ledges on the spur path to South Doublehead. The best views on the trip was a ledge just off the New Path between the spur trail and the Old Path. There is another side path off Old Path below the summit of North Doublehead that heads slightly downhill to a small ledge with a view. Another view can be reached on a short path near the cabin.
I prefer going up the steep New Path and down the moderately sloped Old Path.
Only met two other hikers. One was the trail adopter of the Red Ridge Trail.
