I would not have summited if not for snowshoes this afternoon.
Ski slopes have a good amount of snow remaining, including fairly continuous snow from High Country through Tippy/Tyler and Lower Tippy. I opted to stay on the snow to keep the snowshoes on, as I don't think there's a snow-free way down yet. The main lift line should be avoided because of active construction.
Sosman Trail from the ski area to the Mt. Tecumseh Trail was rough. There's a good 2-3 feet of snowpack. Some areas had semi-firm monorail, while other areas had unstable monorail. Looked like a Micropsiker had a BAD day today judging by the postholes (including a spruce trap). There are also stretches of the trail that are hard to follow due to blowdowns and minimal traffic. Snowshoes are a must unless you hate yourself and others who follow.
Sosman Trail to the summit has some retreating ice monorail on the sunny side (a few dozen foot stretches of bare rock as well), otherwise full snowpack.
Beautiful afternoon with sunny skies, a breeze, and temperatures in the 50s. |
