 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
After we pulled, the small lot alongside Hurricane Mtn Rd had one or two spots left. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There is only one, not far up from the TH, and it's small - a step over. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are a few blowdowns, mostly step-overs of no consequence. Up where the ice is, there is one at an angle across the trail, and one can scrunch down for a duck-under or go in the downslope direction for a step-over, so not much of a problem. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
There were some with other hikers, enjoying the outing, and at least a couple of which would need a good hosing before going inside. |
|
 | Bugs: |
None I noticed. |

 | Comments: |
Toward the end of the open ledge area, we saw the first real ice, but at first we could bare boot past. Above the last of the open ledges we put spikes on, and in many places from there on up (last half mile, at least), the ice was so significant that I would call this a must-have-traction hike for now. Without traction, the worst of the ice must be approached with extreme caution. Even with traction, one of our group took a fall that could have been quite serious. |
