Comments
Comments: A FINE day on Faintin' Franklin Pierce, a cheeky moniker bestowed by his men during the Battle of Contreras in August of 1847, when his horse reared, flipped and knocked him out. Spikes would be helpful for the first 0.2, then its bare until the bridge, then a monorail in mixed stages of decay. I carried snowshoes but did not utilize. Trail today was more or less rock solid, aside from Gypsy making dinosaur noises and destroying snow bridges (This is a new NH state law). This earned her 'The Destroyer' title. Snow depths rapidly increase, there is one post hole that was my trek pole and up to my elbow deep. Only a handful out today, spicy winds. Yesterday on Liberty it was 58, today on Pierce, 22 with chills in the teens. The "Alpine Zone" sign is half buried in snow, so approximately 4-5'+ at 4000 feet. As mentioned, drag strip conditions today, out and back with a side trip to a strongly discharging Gibbs Falls in just over 2 hours. That Gypsy gal had sparks flyin' from her spikes, she can move! Today was a word that gets seldom usage... This was the preantepenultimate for my every-day-4k list. Two more in April, one more in June for 366!
