Holy blowdowns, Batman. I have been reading about how bad this is but it is truly astonishing to see it in person. Thank you to whomever has already been out with a saw - your efforts are very much appreciated. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
My dog had a rough day. We got chased down by an off-leash dog on Livermore Trail, first thing in the morning. It wouldn’t leave us alone and was very aggressive. Despite my yelling and Echo’s barking, no human ever showed up. After about 10 minutes the dog went back the way that it came … and then we saw it again later, barreling down toward us as we were making the final ascent to North. This time a human did show up.Yep, he said he came up one of the slides and was going to descend Scaur. Echo and I were pretty stressed out by his dog so we didn’t get any more trail conditions information.
These two interactions were pretty upsetting for Echo (and me) and she didn’t have as much fun as she usually does. |

We hiked out and back from Livermore via Scaur, to avoid the super steep bits of Pine Bend. I had great intel that snowshoes were not used on the Scaur route on Saturday so I left mine home. My sharp Hillsounds were just fine, but full crampons definitely would not be overkill right now.
On our way back from Middle, any snow in the sun was unstable (to be honest, it was not all that stable not in the sun). It was tedious in places but even if I had my snowshoes I wouldn’t have used them - there is just too much ice up there [mountain snowshoes would help with this]. And what a shocker - we saw someone we know! :) |
