Comments
Comments: Stellar day to hike this peak for two friends finishing the NH grid ,576. For April, the conditions were decent . Roadwalk mostly bare with a few patches of snow. Lower trails mix of patchy snow, mud, dry trail. Snow was firm heading in but softer and granular on way out. The steeper sections had a long side slope of doom that has a pretty narrow foot tread. You’re still walking in some trees at eye level here. All the switchback sections were firm enough that we were not postholing . Views were fantastic from the ridge and summit. We had a great time celebrating our friends’ accomplishment and eating my cookies. Shockingly, we were not assaulted by gray jays this time. Matt and Steve packed up the abandoned tent before we hustled down. Warmer temps may require snowshoes on the switchback sections. Tom and I were happy to have gridded out this one today too.
