Not much to add to the last report except to update on post-storm conditions. Overall, still surprisingly good conditions for April, especially with the rain. Typical spring, down low the shortcut from the bike path and the trail are basically streams and slushy snow. Above about 2000 feet/after the last stream crossing the snow consolidates and it's pretty much hard pack from there, flirting with emerging monorail in places.
The biggest change is that while it was drizzling/raining down low, it was freezing rain above ~4300ft, and everything up high was encased in ~.25-.5" of ice. I was glad to have brought my sharp new Hillsounds, otherwise making it up the short rocky stretch to the summit of Liberty would have been a challenge. It'll all be covered with snow tonight/tomorrow/into Tuesday - so watch out for that! Yay Spring! |
