I headed out to hike up Cabot from the York Pond Rd. Having never been there before this a was very interesting place. Never went to a trailhead via a fish hatchery. After parking at the Unknown Pond trailhead and realizing my mistake before embarking, Kali and I loaded back into the car to move to the correct trailhead. This was easy to find and correct the mistake. I was already nervous about soloing a winter peak and this didn't help much.
Once on the trail, I settled into a good groove and moved up the trails. I had read a TR from the previous Monday that stated I probably wouldnt need more than microspikes, I took the chance and only wore these, car to car. No problems. it was in and out of the clouds and a pretty great day to hike. I made it to the cabin just barely over 2 hours, ate a quick bite, tagged the summit and headed back down.
Roundtrip in 4.25 hours. Saw 5 different people within a mile of the car on return trip. I had the mountain to myself. Well, I shared with Kali. 44 down, 4 to go this season! |
